In what is largely viewed as the worst (for now) Supreme Court decision, and an instigating event for the first Civil War, ChiefJustice Roger Taney penned a blatantly racist decision ruling - without Constitutional support - that blacks could not be citizens. Mirroring that rationale, VP JD Vance opined in a speech before an overly white nationalist crowd, "I think the people whose ancestors fought in the Civil War have a hell of a lot more claim over America than the people who say they don't belong." Note: he doesn't specify those that fought for the Union.
