I found it more interesting than just funny at the beginning, but it did get funny pretty quickly. De Niro and then Trump's own stupidity made it hilarious by the end.
I stayed up late instead of watching it the next morning like I usually do, and it kept me up for awhile.

I was up late, almost always am. I tend to read at night though. I watched it today.
It was well done. No apologies. emotional response to the misinterpretation of his intention, then got funny fast.

I don't watch any of them either. But it was a clusterfuck of epic proportions. And the FCC Chairman was responding to Big Orange.
I watch him a couple days a week, usually with coffee the next day if the monologue looks good

Letterman was popular when I was in college. We'd go to the TV lounge and there was usually 5, 10 or more students in their watching and procrastinating.
Letterman had great music on and was a hippie of sorts.
He premiered Bob Goldthwaite's comedy for example among many other firsts.

Between live viewing of 6 million and 26 million between youtube and social media platforms, it was huge for a late night comedy show.
