People who think AI is bad are small thinkers.

Sure, some AI is bad because it has been implemented poorly. Just like all kinds of technology. But if implemented properly, AI can free up people's time. Freedom to enjoy your life instead of working.

It wont be used properly. That's the problem.

There are countries where they are still almost in the dark ages...shit, there are regions like that within most countries.

That is a different issue. It is not unique to modern technology like AI.

There would be no point in distributing modern technology to an area that does not have the infrastructure to support it. Those areas that you are talking about have to sort other shit out first.

AI could, indirectly, help with that: By freeing-up people's time so they can dedicate more time and effort to the charity work of their choice.

How will people make a living?

Do you have examples?

I mean, sure AI will not fix people. But AI can make people more productive, thereby freeing-up people's time, thereby allowing people to do more of what they want. If some people want to do good (the same point I made in my last post), they could have more time to do it.

By working.

The thought-process that "Being more efficient will put people out of jobs." has been around for quite a while. And it has clearly not transpired.

I wish people would be able to think out-of-the-box a little more.

I based that on your points about people having all sorts of free time. The fact is that robotics alone have put many people out of work in manufacturing.

I think there is a point where it starts harming us.

I mean if people are not even gestating their own babies I see that as severing us from our humanness.

Maybe you're right, but doing what?

I think more "life-enhancing" services would be....life-enhancing.

I touched on this earlier in this thread:
It would be nice if A.I. and other technology were just be used to enhance our lives.

It makes us much more efficient and productive.

We should already have made moves towards a 20-30 hour work week and retiring by the age of 55 at the latest.

And we should have many more life-enhancing facilities and activities available to us.

Imagine how much energy people would have when only needing to work 20 hours a week.

One example of an idea would be having an Art Gallery that is open every day of the week for viewing art, but also with a studio for artists to create, and a teaching area for people to learn fine art as a hobby. These studios are out there already, but we would need more as people had more free time.

We have become an increasingly service oriented economy. I think we need a well rounded economy.
I think that a well-rounded economy would be good in general for all areas of the world.

It used to be that some industries were very specialized, so it made sense that specialized tasks were done in only a limited number of locations. But as technology has advanced, this has become less and less relevant.

I contend that it would be good for the environment for areas to be more self-sufficient/dependent.

Here is an example off the top of my head:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Say in Texas there is a factory that makes a product; call it a widget. They utilize a machine that is made in Japan.
A part breaks. It is a specialized part that needs to be machined on a CNC machine.
There was a time when that part would have to be manufactured in Japan and shipped to Texas. Now, by utilizing CAD/CAM software, the design can be transferred by Internet to Texas and the specialized part can easily be made in a machine shop in Texas. 3D printing has only made this more convenient.
One of the benefits of this is: Less pollution due to shipping parts all around the world.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Sure, specialization is necessary for things like produce that only grows in certain climates and extracting natural resources that are only available in certain areas of the world. But because of technology, most sectors of traditional manufacturing can be done "closer to home".

AI and all technology should be implemented in moral/ethical ways. This should go without saying.

That life pod stuff has ethical problems.

My way of thinking is this: More efficient workers means more free time means women will not feel unnecessary pressure to "stay at work and do not take maternity leave".

I get what you mean and I agree fully. I dont really have no faith in people and I can see how fast it would become profit driven and weaponized.

Maybe I'm just becoming jaded.

Derp. It was invented for profit...

Jesus Christ...you're stupid.

Yeah, the driving force behind a lot of (probably most) innovation is profit. This is a benefit of capitalism.

But, that *not does prevent the government(s) from utilizing these innovations for the common good.

I know what I am talking about is very unlikely because so many of our governments are broken. The first step would have to be to fix governments. And I am not optimistic about that.

Basically, I do think we are fucked. But I do not blame AI or technology for that.

* edit - added "not"; I meant to say "does not prevent"

Yeah I was gonna say.....look at our fucked governments. Yours locked people out of their bank accounts because they supported a protest.

They even threatened to remove children from their homes.

Ours isnt much better. We have gender clinics all over and are medically abusing children :/

And then this growing humans in pods.

It's just Brave New World stuff to me.

What could save the world is a global communist dictatorship government headed by a highly intelligent and truly good and incorruptible person.

Who is with me?
