While the Tesla Model 3 is sometimes described as a driving iPad, the new, all-electric Polestar 2 is a more conservative car. This has advantages and disadvantages.

Polestar is Volvo's new sister brand. Both are owned by Geely, China. Unlike the Volvos, the Polestars are also built in China, using a lot of Volvo knowledge. In fact, the test car is built on the same platform as the Volvo XC40.

Still, it is a pity that a completely new chassis was not chosen, because when getting in, taller drivers quickly bump their knee against the wide center console. With the lack of a combustion engine and gearbox, it is not necessary and is mainly in the way, just like the superfluous center tunnel in the back seat.

In any case, the car looks a bit tight, even though it is 10 centimeters longer than a Tesla Model 3. This is reinforced by the low-placed windows, which restrict the view of other traffic. Particular attention is to be paid to the rear right diagonally when leaving a mini roundabout.

The operating system of the infotainment comes from Android, which works perfectly. It also knows what to do with an iPhone. With a fast charger you can charge for 80 percent within 35 minutes. In practice, the car always reaches 350 kilometers on a full battery.

The Polestar offers more driving experience than the Tesla Model 3, only the steering offers little feeling and the chassis offers little driving pleasure. It seems primarily intended for everyday use and relaxed commuting, not for thrilling rides on winding roads.

Despite its weight of 2123 kilograms, the car hardly leans over in bends, which is a nice plus. Moreover, this electric car can tow a braked trailer of up to 1500 kilograms.
