I'm currently playing Breath Of Fire (SNES) and man did I ever forget just how tough these retro titles can be. They do not hold your hand through the game like many of today's titles.

I play old lady games on my mobile phone. Word games, puzzles, etc.

True enough. They can be relaxing when I'm bored.

It's a great game. Especially if you have the right sized Lazy Susan to rest the board on.

It's all on my mobile phone, I can't get them to play games with me.

I live in a house of full in introverts. Though on the spectrum of extrovert to introvert, I'm not as introverted as they are.

Getting them to do an activity together is like herding cats. lol

I, coincidentally, have a story to share.


Back in about 2011, before ES5 Skyrim came out, I purchased some DLC for ES4 Oblivion. The Fighter's Stronghold and Horse Armor add-ons.

I really like Battlehorn Castle. It was my favourite player home. Maybe my second favourite. It was for sure in the Top 2.

Sometime around 2017-2018, the hard drive on that machine crashed. I had so many mods on that install that there was no way I would be able to use a save file and continue that game. It would not be stable.

So I reinstalled the game and started a new game (I rarely ever play through games a second time - Oblivion and Skyrim are the only game I can remember doing that).

I looked for the DLC mentioned above. I could not find it. Fuck. I scoured all my network drives. Fuck.

I looked online for a download. Bethesda does not sell them anymore (they might for the XBox, but not for PC). I could not find a d/l anywhere. For years, every few months I would look for the files online. I never found them.

So yesterday I was ripping music CDs. Mainly so I have more music when driving in my C8 Corvette.

Put in one CD. Rip it. Put in another. Rip it.

Pick up a CD that says "Oblivion Add Ons".

What??!?!?! No fuckin' way!!!! I found it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This was just before 8pm. I had to start getting ready for hockey at 8:15pm.

I put the CD in the drive. File Explorer pops up with the file names.

Two of them are....

oblivion_dlc_fightersstronghold.exe

and

oblivion_dlc_horsearmor.exe

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!


Fuck yeah!!!!


Then the drive keeps spinning. Making some weird noises. The screen goes faded...."Not Responding" message appears...


No fucking way!!!!

I pop the CD out...put it back in. Same thing. A directory listing, but I cannot access the files.

This time I let it run for a few minutes. I go down and start to get ready for hockey.

I come back up and the screen looks right. The optical drive has stopped spinning. It looks like I can access the files.

I highlight them.

Ctrl-c

I navigate to my Downloads folder.

Ctrl-v

The copied.

They copied!!!!!!!!


I have to get to hockey.

But I have to see.

I run the Horse Armor file. It seems to install.

I run the Battlehorn Castle file. It seems to install.

I run Oblivion Mod Manager.

I see the DLC mods listed.


Awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!


Then I had to leave for hockey.
