It isnt. You can see this in action in any urban area.
In Detroit? Have fun getting legal action taken of youve been raped or you are being traffcked on the streets. However if you shoot your rapist or trafficker? Youll be im prison for at least 10 years.
We have laws that protect and favor criminals over law abiding citizens here. If my dog attacks an intruder, that intruder can sue me. We have to have a sign up warning that we have a dog. So any untruder knows they can just bring meat.
And if i shoot them? Ill probably go to jail. We do have Castle Doctrine here....but if an intruder turns out to be unarmed i could still be charged and convicted. You literally have to wait until the moment before they kill you.
There is a plethora of ways that criminals are more protected than citizens...even victims. It would be a long post if i sat here and listed it all.
Its worse in YOUR state than it is here. Honestly speaking, if you were being harrassed and assaulted by some scum bag off the streets, do you feel confident that the law would be on your side? Because i believe firmly you deserve and are entitled to know as a law abdinding, tax paying citizen...and as a woman....that yes the law would absolutely be on your side.
I know single mothers who live in Detroit and cant afford to move who have guns illegally because they cant afford to go through the process and meet all the standards to have one legally. But they live in a rough area and have kids with them, as Americans its their right to be able to have that gun and protect themselves.
