We watched the Netflix move and the new documentary.

The only new evidence was a letter one brother wrote to the other that was found in his cell and an admission by a Menudo band member that he was sexually abused by their father.

So what? Clearly the brothers who have been caught in countless lies used the "we were sexually abused when we were young children" excuse as a valid reason for the now adult brothers blowing away their parents who were innocently relaxing and watching TV.

Still guilty as any criminal can possibly be. But politics may prevail. Popular opinion is swayed toward releasing them, as most people are really freaking stupid, and that may ultimately decide whether they walk free in the next few months.

I doubt they're lying about the sexual abuse, however I do think they're blowing it way out of proportion and using it as an excuse for premeditated murder. They were at the age where they could have just moved out. Even if they are "crazy" they picked the wrong defense which should be "not guilty by reason of insanity" and they didn't go that route.

OMG. Blowing it out of proportion? The man controlled their lives, completely. They were literally living in a prison.

Yeah. The whole point is the psychological effects of their father's power dynamic made that seem not an option to them. One of the symptoms of such abuse is called Stockholm Syndrome. Look it up.

Anyway, I agree with Gascon. The boys have done their time. Yeah, they could have packed their bags, but they didn't. Their father taught them to react the way they did. And they have spent decades in prison. Time for the state to let them try to salvage what they have left of their lives.

I'm aware of Stockholm. Not everyone who has it turns around and murders their so called captor. Also it's not clear that the boys were molested recently- seems a bit far fetched that it would happen in their 20's. Nor is there any supporting evidence of any abuse in recent years. More likely they wanted the cash, they hated their parents due to their controlling nature and the past abuse, so they formulated a convenient excuse. In the Netflix special which was "based on fact" and from what I compared of the movie to what is known, the boys followed the plotline of a book they read where someone used the abuse excuse to try to get out of being prosecuted for murdering their abuser. There's just way too much that doesn't add up in their favor.

The parents were largely to blame. They abused them, and simultaneously, raised them to be incompetent. They gave them the values they had, they set the example.

I don't know that they haven't been rehabilitated. They won't have it easy if they are released.

I never said everyone reacts this way. Jesus. I am saying these men were abused as children and apparently due to a mix of circumstances and personalities, this is what happened with them. They served their time, and I seriously doubt they are serial killers, so get over it.

They're murderers, liars, with financial motives and deserve the initial sentence without any modifications.

My biggest issue with their current claims for a new trial is that they state they killed their parents in self defense because they were in fear for their lives. There is no evidence to support that claim, and this new found letter to a cousin infering sexual abuse as well as the "confession" by a menudo band member now in his 50s that he was molested by the father isn't nearly enough to change anything but that's up to the judge who will decide if a new trial is warrented based on just those two pieces of evidence.

In a new special, a telephone call recording by Lyle still contains blatent lies. When Lyle is asked why he didn't testify in the second trial he says there were 2 reasons, and both were complete BS. It was pointed out in the documentary that he tried to influence witness by bribing them with cash and if he testified he would have had to come clean about that.

That much being said the court of public opinion is largely in favor of the brothers and in the end that may matter more than the truth.

They've been in custody 35 years. It seems that they have actually been rehabilitated.
I'm guessing they are not the same people they were when they killed their parents.
