Unless people use N95/P2 rated masks properly, they're infecting themselves anyway.

Masks are more of a fashion statement than anything else.

Most people aren't disciplined enough to do proper handling and decontamination.

This is exactly correct. And as you pointed out, we dont handle them correctly ITFP.

Dovey will tell you the same things Lokmar and others have said, and she is in the medical field.

Viruses can remain on surfaces like clothing. Unless you're prepared to set up decontamination stations where you remove your PPE and clothing in a very specific manner, then shower, and safely launder your clothing worn, it's all pointless...

Absolutely! My son-in-law is an ER doctor and he LOL's @ these people and their mask use. He uses a face mask with replacable virus filters and he isnt confident that even that will prevent infection. What he's most concerned about is limiting his viral load when he does get infected.

We were told many months ago to avoid using valved N95/P2 masks because of a shortage within the medical fields.

Just the valved ones....

What they were really saying is masks are really worn to help reduce the infected from spreading through their mouth and airways and valves render that purpose moot.

What a farce...

N95's need only last for hours of use. Most people aren't supposed to be out and about for hours. We should only go out to conduct important matters. This isn't the time to pretend everything is normal. If you go out for groceries, you needn't be out all day.

I have things delivered. It's worth it to me because for a few bucks I can even get my cat food delivered now.

Back to masks, something is better than nothing. People should stop focusing only on themselves and see this as a community problem. The sooner we do things for others, we help ourselves as well.
We simply disagree on this. A standard paper mask doesnt protect other than to stop a direct projection of sputum from a cough. Even in that case, a large portion of the spray of sputum is directed around/through the mask gaps from a cough. IF everyone was issued valveless N95's and they were used ONCE and then discarded, THEN you would have protection.

Yeah, we can disagree. It doesn't make you right though.
No, but the part about paper masks didnt originate from me, it came from someone in the medical field.

And I'm telling you from a public health perspective, that anything you can do to reduce your risk is better than doing nothing at all.

Does it guarantee that you won't get covid? Of course not. But the general public could be helped. A doctor, nurse or other clinical personnel are dealing with different set of circumstances. They're not at the grocery store or pharmacy for a short stint.

They are getting exposed for hours on end with people that we all KNOW are actually sick. It's why they are getting the vaccine first.

Comparing apples to oranges is useless.
I dont think kabuki theater does the public good. If N95's are the way toward mitigation, which I agree they are, lets just be honest about it. Giving people false hope by telling them paper and worse yet, cloth masks offer protection is morally wrong.

It's hardly kabuki theater.

Stop twisting my words. I said: Masks DO make a difference. That's what the real scientists say, not the "Q" dude on 4chan.

You're just a troll trying to fuck up decent threads. Do you understand that your trolling can cost human lives?
Nah, I'm just talking to someone who is too dumb, I can spend my time better
What masks, bonehead? If you're saying paper and cloth masks make a difference, you're dead wrong. Science doesnt support that at all. In Illinois, we've had mask mandates for MONTHS and guess what, the infection rate went off the hook as soon as it started to cool off. Face it, there's ZERO scientific evidence supporting paper masks mitigating infection from COVID.

Where is the evidence that people were infected because they were wearing masks? It's not just what kind of masks, it's how also how often? When? Did they wash their hands, etc.

It's not JUST masks, it's all the behaviors TOGETHER, that make a difference. Why is it always so heard to get through your thick head.

Wearing masks protects others and if everyone wore masks, they'd be more protection for everyone.

I'm afraid that the air that flows out around the mask and fogs up your glasses. is majorly infected with shitloads of virus. Imagine where that virus goes once the fog dries! Now consider around the sides of your face and the pores of the fabric. Pretty much like putting a fukin screen door on a submarine!

Personally, there is nothing we can do about health seeking behavior. You can take a horse's ass to water, but you can't make it drink.

The singular thing I'm addressing here is cloth and simple paper masks and their ability to capture and prevent virus from escaping. Its ludicrous to think they do. N95 masks? I'm all on board with that.

Hello, get a mask with a piece of metal inserted so you can fit it around your nose. That's what I purchased.

Actually, those are the ones I use. Still, they gap in places and simultaneously, they allow virus particles to flow through the material.

Good advice. Unfortunately, a great many people have no idea they are even sick. They get a few sniffles which they think may be allergies or just a reaction to the cold weather. Hell, my nose runs from just having the mask on!

This is all going to backfire horribly for the left. We even have an internet browser company intruding into politics claiming banning people from social media for wrong think supposedly isn't enough. They want people completely banned on the internet, they want to make it so anyone not on their side can't open a bank account, can't use a credit card, etc... This is all going to end horribly.
