For under 10 bucks you could have potatoes growing in a bag year round on your deck, patio, or other suitable part of your rental home. The bags have a zippered inspection/extraction window so you can take out what you need as you go. Potatoes will grow anywhere.

I won't even eat freshwater fish from here on the South Coast of Australia. If it doesn't fuck off/swim off for half the year even further south, then come home, I ain't eating it.
