Why Are UK Detectives So Polite?

I've watched some docs that involve British detectives. One in particular was called: 'Operation Ore'. These men and women are tracking down pedophiles. In some cases the detectives show up these offender's homes at 5:00 am and begin to apologize for showing up early and ceasing all of the evidence. I would have a difficult time keeping my composure with these monsters. Are all British law enforcement members this cordial with criminals?
