Anyways Blurt, here is your Mother in Her Illustrious Glory...

VIP-Playboy-Club-Magazine-1967-Expo-67-Montreal.jpg

...appeared on the Cover of an Iconic & Influential Magazine of its time.
and still influences contemporary culture today.

That's like being on the Cover of Vogue, Life or Time Magazine.
Influenced History & Made History....and without having to 'bare' anything.

Except, my mother's not on that cover, Joe.

Women, eh, Joe! You get to a certain age and they all start looking the same, right?

Oh. I thought from that family photo, the one on the right looked like her.

Just goes ta show How easily a person can impose their own biases on something

That they want to believe something is true...but it isn't.

Oh well.

Nah. His mother is much prettier than that one.

Damn, I still have to scan those stupid pix.

I guess I should, as I'm in "scanner mode" these days; I've been busy scanning old photos of my dearly departed dad in order to pretty up his obit with choice visuals. The funeral home people did a lousy job of it but, to be fair, my father's wife didn't have the photos whereas I do.

As for my mother, her ex was a professional photographer with his own studio and I somehow wound up with all the albums he created for her (one of them a massive 15-lbs, 7"-high, steel-rod-hinged, 12"-inch square affair worth $350 even when empty). I guess I'm the family's unofficial archivist. For the better part of two years now, I've been on-and-off busy digitizing all that content. It's a goddamned chore, I swear!

I wonder maybe Blurt's mistaken?

He should ask his mom again if that really is her or not.

I'd be rather proud if I or someone in my family was part of history like that
Expo 67 was a really big deal back then eh Dovey

100th anniversary of Canada.

But you weren't even born then. And your mom was a wee girl.

It was like the USA bicentennial in 1976. Big deal too.

Joe, there've been tons of memoirs written by former Bunnies.

It's not very original.

There've even been made-for-TV movies about these gals. There's no way to squeeze any more blood outta that stone.

...but there wasn't any written about Canada, and in particular that Club.

Plus it was revolutionary time in Quebec with that Quiet Revolution going in. Quebec Separatism too.

Quebec went from a religious agrarian society to a somewhat secular urban one.

So the Playboy Club could be an interesting backdrop or context for a book about the Club.

It doesn't have to be the commercial razzmatazz if the other stuff you've referred to.

Seems that club was unique stood out from the others.

I dont know. That's just my take.

You have all that archival material and an intimate knowledge of Montreal outsiders don't. And there is the language barrier too which Anglin can't pass thru

Yes, because, of course, I can't recognize my own mother. ::rolls eyes::

FFS, Joe! Your "wishes" don't matter.

LOL.

But that would make an interesting book.

Done well it could sell, eh Dovey?

Especially since Montreal is such a scenic arty town.

Not your typical North American City.

Don't know if you very been there.

Lotta people would like to have a glimpse or imagine what it was like to live during that historical period.

And Blurt has all that material to draw from.

Doesn't even have to be about the Club as much that period. Could see the foundation for a good short fiction novel or short movie.

Well Blurts right on this one, Joe. There has already been several books written on this topic.

I've had friends tell me I should write a book about that industry but... there has already been books written on everything from Playboy Club to that O'Farrell(?) Adult Theatre.

...or how about 'The Mean Streets of Detroit'?!

That would also make a good book.

All these books and movies are always about America's glamor spots but never about the roughER patches like Detroit

Like your commentary on the decline Detroit us really interesting. And how your grandma lived thru saw it and told you how it unravelled. That would make a good book seen thru her eyes, even could be a great setting for a thriller or short fiction story.

See? All these great ideas for you n Blurt.

But nobody's made a movie set in Detroit have they?

And there's actually a lot of famous celebrities who were from Detroit.

But once they go Hollywood, they never seem to talk about their roots again.

Detroit is a place they never wanna talk about, as they'd rather make shows called LA Law, or Miami CSi or New York CSI.

I don't think there's even many shows set in or about Chicago either.

I think the Bob Newhart show was supposed to be set in Chicago.

But that's all I can think of.

Shampain, Someone posts photos of their mother or something else so automatically it draws attention to them.
And people become interested so they comment.
I don't think it implies anyone wants to go beyond that point.

such as...

"Oh, that's a nice dog!"

or

"those roses are beautiful!"

...those are just detached, impersonal observations, that's all.

On the other hand, some folks here would rather post photos of mutiliated bodies or their shlongs & they they think that is perfectly normal and acceptable.

Different strokes for different folks I suppose.

I like looking at old pictures tho.

I'm kinda nostalgic for the Old Times actually.

It doesn't offend me at all but when members post their personal pics they should not feel the need to explain their companions in said pictures... We all should know this... I'm only asking you to leave it bud...

Waitaminit...if you or anyone else posts or divulges PI about themselves, then why is it Wrong to look at or comment upon them Blurt?

As long as it's not sent to anyone else without your permission.

And you did ask me to search for video footage featuring your mother in an old Television Broadcast, which was in the public domain at the time of its release.

If something is in the public domain at the consent of its owner, then it is not private and I assume was intended to be shared as the participants had to sign off on it.

Joe has a point, though.

If it bothered me so terribly to have personal pix out there, I wouldn't post them. But I try to be careful about who else is in the frame. I'm not too worried about family members, but friends and girlfriends are a no-no. I was even expressly asked by my ex to never post a pic of her (she made a career out of staying off the internet's visual radar for reasons related to her position in the political limelight and I respect her wishes even though we split six years ago). I even gutted my Facebook account to meet her requirements.

This board was born as an offshoot of gore boards, BF seen the gap and exploited it... He might not like it so much now but that's completely different to what you're trying to say lolol "There's gore so fuck everyone" It doesn't work like that here and it shouldn't because what are we as a community without each other? NOTHING! You're potentially putting people, valued people off posting their own pics which is NO!!! The critism on the individuals pics are always going to happen, especially on these semi-secret places but I'm only asking you to stop with the mum shit...
