Looks like the mainstream party won. Following is rightwing party, Chega and then followed by the Socialist Party with only two fewer seats. I assume it's a parliamentary system and that the left (SP) would govern along with the Centrist party...but I would need to read more about it.

Yes, it's parliamentary, and Chega's share of the votes is chilling. We were a solidly socialist country until a couple of weeks ago. There are claims here that Chega did some underhanded shit to win seats. We'll see how this plays out.

I don't know. The good thing about the Parliamentary system is that these alliances form and reform. If Chega gets out of hand, the centrists will align with the socialists, and Chega will not necessarily be a big part of the decision making process. It kind of depends on how citizens react.
BTW, This is why Portugal has turned right: Fucking house flippers and people opening up Airbnbs have made housing unaffordable for many Portuguese. Housing prices have almost doubled in the last fours years. The right, as usual, convinced them that immigrants from Africa and India and Brazil are the reason for the cost of living increases, and as usual, that's pure fucking bullshit. It makes me so mad.

They do get a better education, I think. And they are generally more tolerant people. But the toxic capitalist misinformation mongers are very good at what they do. They want to mine Portugal for everything they can squeeze out of it, and so the propaganda machine, having been honed in the US and UK, etc, is in hyperdrive right now. People everywhere trying to make a buck and convince themselves they are good people while doing it.
There are a lot of American companies here, and they abuse the workers here just like they do in the US. Portuguese people need to guard their pensions and their four-week vacations and their universal healthcare and their free higher education, because if they don't, they are going to lose it all.
I mean Portugal has a legit communist party, and no one is ashamed of being in it.

When I was in College in the 80’s I was around a lot of business majors a popular dream on my campus and many others at the time was to get your degree be a monster capitalist for a decade or so, make your “Bank” and retire in your 30’s to the Coast of Portugal. Nobody I know of has done it, but I am sure many did.
There are a LOT of capitalist pigs from other countries -- the US and Northern Europe -- here trying to import their business models to a country that is technologically advanced, but has a very relaxed and family-oriented approach to life. They are truly brain washing them into believing their mantra, "Calma, calma" is somehow backwards.

I take umbrage at a personal level with Trump, he's a horrible human being that is hurting many people. He's a complete tool...personally and politically.
Bush/Cheney I despised because of how many 10s of millions were hurt by their shitty warmongering policies in the ME. It wasn't personal though.
