I did that during covid. We used zoom and one of the players had mixing software.I think they must play to a metronome or backing track and it is all put together in a studio.
So many people thought all that recorded stuff was played live through the Internet during the shutdown. Even a split second delay would throw everything off.
I think there must be some kind of software that would allow everyone to play to a click track or backing track and have it all sent to a location for it all to be editing together and then have the music put out with a small delay....but for them to play together like a live band would with no track and just hearing each other.....impossible over the Internet.

I found a video of John McLaughlin doing that during covid and it was excellent.
