Holy fuck!! I asked my wife the same thing last night.
The only thing I can figure is that news people all think they are all special and important people. Which I think stems from being recognizable to many of the public. Someone sees you in the line at the grocery store and says "Hey, you are the reporter from XYZ!! I see you on TV all the time!!!" and it makes them feel...special and important. It is like almost all celebrities. They get an inflated ego because people treat them like they are special and important.
Look what we do on this very forum.

Hey Prowler. Yeah, it's strange how that works in society. Many of us myself included, sometimes tend to hold celebs in high esteem. Don't know why for sure though. All I know is that old woman isn't anymore special than any of us.

No shit, Sherlock. No one on Earth isn't flawed. They are making a big deal out of her because her daughter's famous. And she probably would not have been kidnapped were her daughter not famous.
