Just thought folks like
@Lily and
@Murdock and
@LotusBud might want to see this.....
Some of us were raised right....
That's sweet, and maybe true of many people who are into the Confederacy, but that doesn't change the fact that the whole history of the Confederate flag is charged with grief and violence and despair for many, many people.
I have nothing else to add to that. It's brief and to the point.
Well, since you have nothing to add, I'll simply say read what I wrote to Lotus.
A lot of us are good people. You've told me of some past stuff, and I just wanted to show you some proof that a lot of us were raised right.
I'm not sure what you mean by "You've told me of some past stuff."
That flag continues to cause a lot of pain to a lot of folks. You have all the rights under the 1st amendment to fly it. I can't quibble with that.
But what of common decency and respect for those people that it does hurt?
You told me about "Southerners" being mean to you or some shit long ago. Prolly just a group of assholes.
That flag means a lot of things to a lot people. Why cant those with hate towards it, not have some understanding that "hey! This guy might be a good guy!".
Sure, there are some hateful groups that fly it, but they are the minority, and us true Southerners despise those kinds of folks.
That Flag, the Bars & Stars doesn't bother me at all.
Mind you, my ancestors weren't slaves either, so maybe they see it a bit differently.
I'm just inclined to see it as a piece of History, nothing more.
BTW, the French in Quebec have a flag similar in Spirit to the Dixie Flag:
It was derived form the pre-revolutionary Monarchy of the French Kings:
It is considered an integral part of French Canadian identity.
However, unlike the US South, slavery was never abolished in New France.
In fact, it existed into the early part of the 19th century tho it was waning as an institution by then even after the English conquered New France - which is modern day Quebec.
It was the British who finally did away with slavery there and the French were more than eager to hang onto their slaves.
so a person could advance a similar argument, that the current Flag of Quebec represents Slavery and should also be torn down.
You could find oppression in any every national symbol, flag and go woke about it.
...and the Great Taj mahal in India? Don't forget, that was built with Slave Labor.
so were the pyramids of Egypt. Egyptians have told me that their slave ancestors built those tings.
