I love sailing. It’s all those things, but can be dangerous at the same time. I insist that my guests wear a life vest and are tethered in.

I never wear a life jacket. They're pointless and cumbersome. Plus it's an incentive to not lose your yak or come out of it.

@Frood I have done some ocean kayaking and some lake kayaking and some river kayaking and I never take my hat off for fear of a sun BURN!!!!!

Where I liked to kayak, lifejackets wouldn't make much of a difference. Channels and undertow are too strong. You come out, there's a good chance you’ll die.

Paddle leashes are good though. Saved my arse a few times.
