The 2010 US Census asked two separate questions regarding race and ethnicity. First, it asked, "Is this person of Hispanic, Latino, or Spanish origin?". The options provided were "No, not of Hispanic, Latino, or Spanish origin," "Yes, Mexican, Mexican Am., Chicano," "Yes, Puerto Rican," "Yes, Cuban," and "Yes, another Hispanic, Latino, or Spanish origin" with a space to write in the specific origin. The second question asked, "What is this person's race? Mark one or more boxes," with options for White, Black or African American, American Indian or Alaska Native, Asian, and Native Hawaiian or Other Pacific Islander. Respondents could select multiple races.
