Costa Rica was significantly "flooded out" by a severe weather event in November 2024, which caused widespread torrential rainfall, landslides, and damage to infrastructure, displacing thousands of families and affecting over a million people. Other recent large-scale flooding incidents include those in September 2022 from heavy rainfall, October 2018 from a low-pressure system, and September 2021 from heavy rains that displaced over 3,000 people.
