I've been subjected to it on and off over the decades. Many HRD's use it and don't necessarily tell you. But you can tell when they ask for your three best traits/skills for the job and 3 things you'd like to improve (ie you're shit at). The trick is preparation and being honest.... yet spinning your negatives into positives for the particular job.

Reasearch all you can and ask yourself questions then respond to yourself until you have at least 3 (5 is better) stories about your worklife that would apply to the interview/application. 5 positive 5 less than positive, then work on both to make the 5 positive clear and concise in your head, and the 5 negatives things you learnt from and got positivity from ie improved yourself. Never talk badly of a coworker though. Speak in generalities.

You will get the advancement.... or the next one... and in the meantime, you've got a good chance at applying for positions in other companies and getting those.

Wow! I woulda flunked the STAR thingie. I always just said "This is my expected rate of pay. These are the expected benefits should I decide to take this position, and so forth. Always seemed to work forme.

Every prospective employer is different, Reg. I approach 70 year old self made millionaire company owners differently than silver spoon fed latino brats..

In the car biz if you’re doing good but want a change, interviews are often as simple as telling them your unit average and a recent pay stub, after determining if they’re pay plan and schedule meet your standards

That's sales... I don't know a whole lot about that industry except where I've had to interact or process within to meet their agreements. But I hate people in general (like persons) so that's cool by me.

I love it too, Ollie.... but I have said awkward shit in interviews before because I thought the interviewers were "mah kinda people" and I probably was, but not their "company's people"... lol.... one time I was asked about how I'd feel about working around females and under one, and I just blurted out something along the lines of "this is my dream job!!!" We all laughed hard.... and I never got the 3rd interview....

I walk out of interviews these days if there is a female boss present. I'm not subjecting myself to that prospective shit because 8 out of 10 times, the company is stupid.
