I remember when I worked for the Amish. They bought an old school house from the 1860's but instead of using pink bat fiberglass insulation, got a company to deliver old wool which was blown down the internal walls of the structure and roof.

Nobody wanted old wool at the time but it was washed, re-treated, and worked super well. That schoolhouse was warm as hell with just a little potbelly stove.

I want to keep the drop ceiling, I plan on only removing the damaged paneling and all the ceramic bricks as they're cracking and falling off the walls

So it's super easy and cheap. You've got a thin skin or facade in your living spaces. Rewiring will be easy. Paneling is cheap as chips.
