They do that in numerous cities including the one that I am in. There are two big problems with that. 1) Even if everything goes well it is extremely expensive, bare minimum $100 a night, and 2) Frequently, everything does not go well because it turns out mentally ill and/drugged out people (who frequently have drug induced psychosis) often damage or even destroy hotel rooms. That also falls back on taxpayers to pay for.

One of the biggest problems recovering drug addicts have is not being able to find gainful employment with the unjustified employment dips and often times.....felonies.

We do something similar to this now and it varies by state. Drug addicts get arrested and they get the choice to go to jail or go to rehab and complete a program. If they were to be charged with a felony, that felony goes on "hold" and doesn't exist unless they commit another....then they have both to deal with.

I saw plenty of people who found their to the program I went into becauss a judge ordered them.

Many of them go right back to drugs once they've finished a few years. Many of the "reasons" are the same.

They couldn't get their kids back(fast enough. ..I saw many that could have had they just stayed the course)

And the most popular? They couldn't get hired anywhere. These are two huge triggers for a lot of addicts.

We need places willing to give recovering drug addicts who have felonies an opportunity.

In addition to getting $230 a month in food stamps (and the homeless can use it at restaurants because they lack a place to cook) there are multiple places serving free breakfast, lunch, and dinner to all comers plus there are many "food drive bys" which are well meaning people who give free food. Food is not and never has been an issue.

Why then are they all robbing people and stores? Simple, to feed their addictions. Liquor and drugs are what they want and unlike food it is not free and give out every where.

Druggies get section 8 and low cost housing before families and single mothers do. I absolutely love my new area but when you go down the hill and make a left, there is an encampment of tents. Loads of these people CHOOSE to be out on the streets. They want to keep getting high.

You do understand addiction is a disease, and not freedom of choice, yes?

Then fucking start treating it as one! That includes changing the law so they can be involuntarily forced into rehab. The same needs to be done with the mentally ill. Liberals refuse to do that and even changed the law to remove duty to care statutes. Those need to all be restored. They cannot and will not care for themselves so they need to be institutionalized, we used to do that, liberals cried big crocodile tears and claimed that was so unfair, and now all of the junkies and mentally ill are just on the streets. If you give them free housing they will destroy it or get high, pass out, and have it burn down.

They need to be institutionalized until the professionals say they can care for themselves.
