I toured the castle that Christopher Columbus built for his oldest son on the island that used to be Hispaniola and is now the Dominican Republic/Haiti. I still get chills when I think about the slave holding cells on the property with the shackles still in tact.

I’m not sure how big you are on history, but Hispaniola was the jumping point for the Trans-Atlantic slave trade and slavery did not start on this island until Columbus arrived.
