We call them throwbacks. I got two today. First time out. A baby Striper and a nice one, maybe 20 inches. Still too small so back they go. Spring time water is still very cold. No bait in the water. I was using sand worms. A nice guy next to me left and offered his leftover blood worms. The idea is rig for Winter Flounder. Any Bass will find it and grab it. I got one on the sands and one on the bloods. On the outgoing tide no less.

Got back to that second pond from a couple of days ago. Then - 11 Bass to 2 lbs on spinnerbaits and chatterbaits in an hour and a half. Today a whole different game.
. Nothing on those baits for a hour. Bit more sun and calmer. Switched to a 5" Creme Stik (straight senko type worm) in green Pumpkin and got 7 in the next hr or so as clouds and light rain rolled in. One nice one at 3 1/2 lbs.
That might be my big trophy for the year.

I was supposed to take the Grandkids fishing today. We went from 90° to 40's wet and windy. WTF?!?

I got a fishing joke for you.
A professional fisherman is out early in the season. It is pretty cold, freezing even. He has the best equipment money can buy, yet is fishless. He notices a small boy catching one fish after another. He swallows his pride and asks the kid how he is doing so well. The kid says "smurfetoofusnoomdebds". The pro thinks the kid must be mental so he walks away. Still no hits, yet the kid is reeling them in one after another. This time he runs over to the kid and demands to know what he is doing. The kids says "smurfetoofusnoomdebds". The pro loses his temper and screams at the kid to tell him his secret. The kids spits something into his hands, and says "Ya gotta keep the worms warm".

I got two more baby Stripers today. The worms are healthy so I went and used them. While there I noticed a DEC car parked nearby. They were not in sight so I forgot about them. An hour or so later here they come walking back from the back of the bay. One was holding a big black garbage bag. You could tell there was a BIG fish in there. Someone got popped. The only fishermen coming back from there were two guys with a fishing cart with wheels, and a guy that was all dolled up like a trout fisherman. Chest waders, vest, hat, fly rod, he would have fit right in upstate on some Trout stream. When you are back there you are very isolated and you think no one will see you. But the DEC decided to make the walk- and got their guy. I think the fine is a thousand bucks now. Ouch.
