Worth watching about the excedus out of California due to the epic levels of mismanagement by the state Democratic Party.

There is an exodus out of California, of which I was a part, due to the Democrat AND Republican support of uncontrolled development and the elimination of rent control statewide, which has caused housing costs to sky rocket. Also, the never-ending influx of people from out of state (lib and con people) pushed up housing costs. Now people are leaving because the cost of living is out of control. This was caused largely by corporate greed. Cons and dems are equally guilty of causing this phenomenon. If you are paying attention, you may have noticed it happened all over the country pre-covid. Now, with 37 million evictions coming up, who knows wtf will happen. There will undoubtedly be another economic collapse -- this one worse than 2008.

I have a feeling we gonna get hit by Iran if Biden takes office. They know better than to fuck with Trump.

I’m done worrying. It’s in Gods hands.

I really, really would not worry about that, of all things. Trump was stirring the shit. Biden won't do that. I would worry much more about the continued destruction of the middle class. It's not going away, and Trump did NOTHING to stop it except create more low wage jobs, which causes the middle class the shrink. Biden will not change anything.

You're the same fool who told us not to worry about COVID

You are correct about the ever accelerating decline of the middle class though you seem to be incorrect about the reasons why. First of all California does not have uncontrolled development, extremely far from it, since 1980 new housing construction has always been way below demand and the lack of supply while demand is growing is what has caused housing prices to skyrocket. We’ve had 40 years of this and it is all due to over regulation. We’ve never had state wide rent control and thank god for that because rent control, like any price control, has without exception been a disaster every where it has ever been tried. All rent control does is result in even fewer new units getting constructed making the shortage of housing worse plus it results in a mish-mash of illogica decision making.

In NYC where they have idiotic rent control you will frequently find 90 year old widows living in a five bedroom house paying just $75 a month in rent while a young family is all crammed into a studio which costs $3000 a month because no one can find a bigger place. Rent control is simple sounding so it appeals to low information people but it is economicly disastrous especially for the poor whom it pretends to help.

The main reason the middle class is getting killed in California is due to an avalanche of bad regulations all of which drive up prices, decrease the standard of living for regular people, and make it impossible for small businesses to compete. If you want I can start detailing some of those in California but this post is long enough.

BTW this is a discussion on this very topic from
last week:

The problem with California has to do with East coast transplants that flooded the state in the 70s and 80s. We had special names for these wannabes

That hasn’t been true in a long time. American born population has been net negative every year in California since at least 2009 but periodically (not every year but most years) since 1991. The state population has mostly increased for the last 30 years due to foreign immigration and now even that stalled out in 2019. 2019 saw the first net total population decline in California’s history and 2020 seems to show just an avalanche of people leaving.

Watch this video to learn why new housing barely gets built in California these days. This shortage is what caused prices to skyrocket and eventually drove out the middle class.

He’s pissing tons of us off. People are starting to panic buy again, one big shit show. I’m honestly sick of living in California. It’s only going to be worse if Biden frauds his way into office.

It won't be any worse. It will be the same. Washington DC is now a revolving door for servants of the corporate masters. You have to understand, federal and state governments are run by people who are supported in office by lobbies. Those lobbies are the pharmaceutical industry, banks, Wall Street, oil companies, Amazon, and the insurance industry. Trump was beholden to them just like every other president in the last 50 years. NOTHING WILL EVER CHANGE until Americans get money out of politics. NOTHING.

Please, people, you have to look at the whole picture. You have to follow the money from A to Z, and not just A to B. This is not about left vs right anymore. It is about the owners of the country vs the rest of us.

Get in a con governor in California. NOTHING WILL CHANGE. The state has been bought by developers, tech, and the banks.

Jews, in other words...

East Coasters and Midwesterners invaded California. Prices skyrocketed thanks to speculators and developers. Now the state is crowded and overpriced. It's not a political issue. It's an issue of BOTH parties selling out to developers and banksters. There were lots of CONS in the legislature in the 70s and 80s. Come on. Raygun was the guv of CA.

You failed economics, didn’t you? The building boom was when California was a red state, 1945-1980, that is when housing was cheap because supply was plentiful. In 1978 you could buy a brand new 4 bedroom/2.5 bath home with a two car garage on a quarter acre lot about five miles from the beach for just $28,000. How do I know? Because my parents bought one in San Diego. By the late 1980’s regulations had made building more difficult but you could buy a new 3000 ft2 SFH in Scripps Ranch (about eight miles inland from La Jolla) for just over $200,000. Again, I know because my parents bought one.

To compare the first house I bought which was a 3/2 townhome with no front yard and only a 10’ x 20’ backyard which had been built in 1978 cost me $395,000 in 2004. The single family home I own now was bought for $429,000 in 2010 (it was a foreclosure house and that price was $200,000 off what the guy who got foreclosed on had paid). Today it is worth about $800,000. That original house my parents bought in 1978 for less than $30,000? Yeah, it now goes for around $900,000 and probably has lots of needed repairs.

The point is as soon as Democrats started strangling new housing construction prices skyrocketed and we went from dirt cheap homes to SFH being a luxury. It is all due to over regulation depressing supply.

We do you get that? Forced rehab for drug addicts and institutional care for the mentally ill would go a long way towards helping the issue.

BS. The housing shortage in CA is more about shortage of land than anything else, and that only happened because of the immigration and building booms of earlier decades. All those Midwesterners and East Coasters, like Sea and I said, and then the graft from banks and developers. Ruined the state. It's a good thing developers didn't overbuild in recent decades, because millions are going to be leaving.

It's due to increased demand. Caused by an increase in job growth. Very simple. Political parties had nothing to do with it.
Nice try with the spin, tho.

At the highest of the 1970’s in migration to CA housing was dirt cheap; only 2.5 times average yearly income. Also density laws prevent the creation of apartments and high rises in most cases and even when the area is zoned for high density SEQA allows NIMBYs to block new development for an average of ten years while driving up costs by millions due to frivolous lawsuits. Those are all regulatory issues not land availability issues.

Dr Drew had this to say about homelessness in L.A. (from about a year ago).

Dr. Drew is an idiot. It's a multitude of problems. Mental health, high housing costs, no treatment programs for drug addicts, not enough jobs that pay a living wage. Seth Green did not stand up to Drew.
