They were attempting to qua tiny tax avoidance, which be either legal or illegal, and did some pretty advanced mathematical modeling which I won't even pretend to understand.

It basically focuses upon off shore accounts which are not declared (which is illegal) and pass through businesses (which can be perfectly legal). Certainly go after undeclared off shore accounts whenever they can be identified but I don't see a compelling reason to restrict legal pass through businesses. Simply saying there is something we can tax more is not a good argument for why we should tax it more. Especially since many family businesses are pass through businesses and people still pay income tax on that money on the personal side.
