The perverts won the Great Gay Marriage Debate on principle, even though the idea that two perverts shacking up is "the same thing" as good and wholesome real Marriage is an abomination that sullies and stains the ancient Cultural Institution (that predates all polities and societies).

But that was the intent. Karl Marx himself named the institution of Marriage to be one of the "three pillars of bourgeois society" that need to be destroyed. (The other two being the nuclear family and the Church.)

But the perverts had a point regarding legal statuses and the benefits provided by legal recognitions of legally committed partnerships between two persons.
