A lot of folks have been calling and writing
. and a few knocking on my door
(please don't knock on my door - when I see really weird people out the window at my door I never open it)
..they been askin why no reports on the Big Res.
Last year - so many reports on the Big Res
..now nuuutin, honey.
Well, it's been an unusual season due to the excessive rains.
It washed out the river fishing, and also,
since the Big Res needs to get down to a certain level below capacity to be shore fishable
..and
it's never been worth a shit in the warm months
. it was my first opportunity today to fish it.
Fall fishing is nearly here - I usually gage that to be at the equinox by coincidence
. the time when the Bass start hitting spinnerbaits.
..a little early so I go up today to check it out.
They are on swimbaits (paddletail) from the start.
I take a Smallie
Then a Largemouth at 2 Lbs (rare - the first LMB I have caught there)
Then I get another hit on the drop - 80 feet out.
Big fight - a Smallie which I deftly landed.
I had the presence of mind, considering my recent string of big catches,
to bring my weight scale.
..Unfortunately, in my haste did not check to see if the batry was live..
which, it was not.
I checked the length at 20 1/4 inches - Equal to between 3' 14oz and 4" 3 oz according to a weight/length chart.
..I'm calling 4 Lbs even. A BIG Smallie.
Caught another then 3 straight got off on jumps.
Ghost 3.75 inch paddletail on 3/8 oz head won the day.
Zip on spinnerbaits. Probably no more than a week away and they'll start coming in,
..but a fine day it was.
