While I think there is a need for affirmative action, it should be based on economic need and acute skill shortages in specific regions, not race based. A black child who grew up in an affluent home with 2 black parents each making 6 or 7 figure incomes does not need affirmative action.
But a White kid who grew up dirt poor in Appalachia could benefit from this arrangement just as a poor Black or Latino kid from a ghetto could as well.
Same time those opting to be recipients of affirmative action would upon graduation, lose their right to choose where they would seek employment. So if the government mandated that they be sent to a Native reservation to practice medicine in Alaska, they'd have to sign a contract to go there for a minimum of 10 years.
It wouldn't be an easy ride to set up a cosmetic surgery practice in Beverley Hills.
