As soon as he found out that faith is what brought me through addiction he has been pissed about it.

I actually tried to have this conversation with him back at TRF, and it was a huge waste of time because all he wanted to do was shit on Christian's and shit on scripture. He doesnt understand it at all but believes he DOES. And not just that.....but he is convinced he understands it BETTER than anyone else.

After a while of having nowhere argurments with him where he just spewed hate at Jesus I started to feel actual conviction over it and removed myself from the "discussion". His only motive is trashing Christ and trashing Christian's. I wasnt doing any good, he wasnt hearing anything, all I was doing was giving him a spot light to be completely hateful, unreasonable and blasphemous. He can do all these things all he wants of course....but I dont want to give him the stage to do it on.

But he has been going on about it every since and it's been like 8 years. If anything he has just gotten more bittered about it. I'm still amazed at how judgemental, conceited and arrogant people like this can be and how they will accuse their "target" of being conceited and arrogant. At some point in his life he must have felt some heavy conviction when presented with Gods holy standards....which is a very good and healthy experience....but instead of godly sorrow leading to repentance, he became hard hearted and angry with the standards - not his own sinful state.

So perhaps being around any believer in any capacity reminds him of that and that battle he is in to make his sin not be sin, and than seeing believers sin validates this thinking for him so he plays the role of the pharisee pretending he is proving something.

Whatever it is, he sure hangs onto to things for a very long time. He is very personally offended that people exist who dont valid his godless world views.

Because I actually enjoy discussing matters of science and faith, but this sort of discussion is fraught with peril. People clam up when their religious views are aggressively called into question... just as those who hold secular views clam up under the same circumstances.

For any dialogue to be possible, all parties must first acknowledge that their respective positions on such matters are far from being the only possible ones. No dialogue is possible without such an acknowledgment.

All true. However, is that what this forum is here for? I don't find it a place for nuanced discussion. It's about bullshit, ego, and certainly seems to be a place where individuals vent their existential angst.

As soon as he found out that faith is what brought me through addiction he has been pissed about it.

I actually tried to have this conversation with him back at TRF, and it was a huge waste of time because all he wanted to do was shit on Christian's and shit on scripture. He doesnt understand it at all but believes he DOES. And not just that.....but he is convinced he understands it BETTER than anyone else.

After a while of having nowhere argurments with him where he just spewed hate at Jesus I started to feel actual conviction over it and removed myself from the "discussion". His only motive is trashing Christ and trashing Christian's. I wasnt doing any good, he wasnt hearing anything, all I was doing was giving him a spot light to be completely hateful, unreasonable and blasphemous. He can do all these things all he wants of course....but I dont want to give him the stage to do it on.

But he has been going on about it every since and it's been like 8 years. If anything he has just gotten more bittered about it. I'm still amazed at how judgemental, conceited and arrogant people like this can be and how they will accuse their "target" of being conceited and arrogant. At some point in his life he must have felt some heavy conviction when presented with Gods holy standards....which is a very good and healthy experience....but instead of godly sorrow leading to repentance, he became hard hearted and angry with the standards - not his own sinful state.

So perhaps being around any believer in any capacity reminds him of that and that battle he is in to make his sin not be sin, and than seeing believers sin validates this thinking for him so he plays the role of the pharisee pretending he is proving something.

Whatever it is, he sure hangs onto to things for a very long time. He is very personally offended that people exist who dont valid his godless world views.
