In the West there is trout, Salmon and steelhead fishing. You don't just stand or sit there waiting for a bite. With swiftly flowing water, it's casting and reeling to get fish to bite.

I grew up with an avid fisherman as a dad. I spent a lot of time out on rivers with the family. As a kid there was plenty to do at the river to keep us entertained when not actively fishing.

Like you say, it's meditative, sparkling sun, ice cold water from Sierra snowmelt, blue skies. with fluffy clouds, dragonflies and other critters, frogs croaking...

It was heavenly...
