Slave trading was the rule and the except was the west banning slavery in the late Roman period then the British spending huge amounts of money to force the end of the slave trade during the early 19th century.
The UK only finished off paying the debt to militarily force the end of the slave trade in 2015. Slavery was every where; what set the west apart is it actually ended it without being forced to do so by outsiders. Fact.
