Other comment I'd make is ....the business world in general is brutal.
I work with this large company & the stories I hear come out of there lately with all the recent layoffs everywhere.
"Oh...we let Fred go the other day.and no one Knew. Linda? oh she's gone too...without notice."
So I suppose a major reason people in charge in the business world are so brutal is that if they aren't, they'll git sacked too.
Lotta fear out there these days. Everyone seems ta be afraid of losing ther job.

Except unlike you, I've got options if need be.
All the sunny destinations are relatively closeby to us
California is only 600 miles to the south or less.
We can drive down there almost 365 days of the year.
Or to Arizona. Flights to Hawaii and Mexico are easy to get.
But I notice about the only place people in Ontario, New York, Quebec have to go to escape the bitterly cold winters is Florida. and that's a long trek for ya'll.
And it's not that safe to drive down to Florida in January from what I understand
and that's why Florida is your mecca, eh?
I went there one winter from Toronto once.
It's really quite far and cold from where you live
