Actually, that makes sense.
I also live in bear country, and the only time they seem to become a bit of a problem is when they're fattening up before hibernation, like last fall when one pretty much destroyed my cherry tree, and got up in my apple tree too. The rest of the year they won't even come on my property, since they generally prefer to be away from people.

Do you only have black bears or do you have Grizzly bears too?

There are Grizzlies around here too, but they tend to stay higher up in the surrounding mountains. Blacks are the ones that are more inclined to wander down into the valley where people live...

What part of Canada are you in? It must be deeply forested.

Southeastern British Columbia (Kootenay region). More varieties of trees grow here than anywhere else in Canada, so very forested and mountainous. As an added bonus, the vast majority of the region is still rural with small towns... People haven't ruined this place, yet!

I am blessed to have what I have, even though not everything is always perfect (in the midst of reno's to the house, which is turning out to be a frustratingly expensive and time consuming task)...

People come from all over the world to visit this region, and I appreciate rugged beauty. Water flows everywhere here, and it's drinkable right out of the streams!

When I trucked long haul in my 20's, I spent a lot of time in Southern Cali... It was just so foreign to me in a variety of ways.

House renovations can be a bear, been there done that. I want to go to British Columbia (Vancouver, Victoria) and the Canadian Rockies and then Montreal.

Southern California has its charms, here and there, but the lovely part of the State is mostly the northern part, imo.

Ya, Nor-Cal was still OK... Used to occasionally stop and grab a burg in Yreka at the McDonald's when I'd pass through... Still sort of rural there. We have limits as to how long we can drive commercially in a day/week, so certain places worked for that.

Vancouver is a shithole, avoid at all costs. Victoria is a quasi-shithole, so avoid at your discretion... Rockies towns are usually good, but plan that shit out beforehand so you don't get ripped off... Renting a car is what you'll need, so you're not 'stuck'...

Montreal does have history, and unlike New Orleans, they've fought hard to keep it French! White? Not so much, but you leave Montreal and it's still French language spoken by Whites... Know that going in, is that they typically try to preserve their culture as best they can...

Agreed… but I will always love the grit of Hollywood and the history of Santa Barbara.

Wanna know how Hollywood really started? Thomas Edison invented the motion picture camera, and was utilizing it around New York. He had patents and rights to its use. Well, a bunch of Jews didn't like that so they stole a bunch of his cameras and headed as far away from him and New York as they could... Hollywood worked, since those Jews could make a run for Mexico if Edison came after them for using his technology...

Edison never went after them, and the rest is history!

[QUOTE="DDT,

As such, So-Cal would be a no-go for be, but Nor-Cal might fit the bill if I was forced to choose... I'm too poor for Rolling Hills, but still like to be around White people also...
