The problem is that masculinity has been under attack for a long time now. There is now a generation of adult men who aren't grown men. They're still teenage boys, psychosocially.
Men in their 20s and 30s who still sit around the house playing video games instead of reading, writing, or building things. Men for whom a substantive life accomplishment is seeing an alert at the corner of a TV screen that reads, "achievement unlocked." For whom catcalling is as close as they'll ever get to giving a lady a tip of the hat. And they've been raised -- to the degree that they were raised at all -- to think that'll do. To think that pushing themselves toward excellence is somehow vulgar, and that "good enough" really is good enough.
How old are you? I'm curious....because wisdom comes with age but I wouldn't be surprised if you were younger than 40.
Hate to disappoint you; 45 next week.
