Al Qaeda did fly planes into buildings and the Taliban was hosting them as "guests" and refused to stop allowing them to use Afghanistan as a base to operate their terrorist organization. As a supposed "teacher" you should know this.

I totally agree with why we went there. I have friends who were part of taking Afganistan. And my ex brother in law. It was important to stop it from becoming a hub from which terrorist planned attacks on the US.
But we didnt have to stay there for 2 decades. We should have left long ago.
It's crazy people are JUST now talking about the money that went into this? JUST yesterday started talking about billions of dollars worth of our own weapons and equipment was just given to the Taliban? If we couldnt take it we should have destroyed it. Better destroyed than in the hands of the Taliban. No one was having open conversations about Afghanistan and now everyone is talking about how much of a waste of money and lives it was.
The reasons people wanted to pull out were never presented accurately. Just like how those of us mad about how badly botched it was are being twisted into we are mad the US pulled out.
I really dont understand how people brave and desperate enough to try to cling to a plane wouldnt just rise and fight. If you are willing to die to avoid taliban rule why not die a warrior death?
