Remember Bill Gates? The same dude who likes to play world savior, defender of the environment, champion of ecosystems and whatnot?
It's his company that released this aberration called Windows 11, which is turning tens of millions of decent computers into e-waste
Not the first time he's done it either.

Bill retired from Microsoft in 2008, he owns less than 1% of its stock. You can hate Microsoft and you can hate Bill but it's not Bill's Playhouse anymore and hasn't been for quite some time.

I bought a computer recently that can accommodate Windows 11 @RANCIDMILKO ™ ®© so I'll try it out.
Same time I get that itchy feeling Windows 11 won't be around long. That soon after within a year Windows 12 or its equivalent will be announced.
Theres something about Windows 11 which seems very fleeting wont last long. So on that regard it will probably resemble Windows Vista.

Yeah, I guess it's silly to tie MS and Gates these days. But apparently he was ok with the new OS, even though almost all of the IT community is irked at the requirements to get it running.
They can add W11 to that list

I see myself having 3 PCs in the future
An offline gaming machine, a Linux machine for Internet and a miniPC for online Windows and traveling

I'm not that fortunate. But for someone who likes the kind of gaming Linux doesn't do -- specifically, multiplayer online gaming -- I'd suggest splitting that activity off to a gaming console.

How sad is that? Discovering that your userbase is so unenthusiastic about your latest OS that the only way to get them to use it is to sunset the OS they prefer.
If there's a slimier way to force userbase migration (outside of overtly sabotaging their preferred system) I find myself hard-pressed to conceive of it.

You know, it's a tool is all, like a screwdriver. Do I have to replace a screwdriver every 8-12 years? Fuck no.
They come with a lifetime guarantee and don't cost hundreds of dollars....and they don't have fits and malfunction or require updates. I have fishing reels that never gave me a day of trouble for 40 years, but these fucking computers...soooo sophisticated and high tech. Yeah right, man. WHERE'S MY LIFETIME GUARANTEE?

I was just trying to find a way to keep using Windows 10. Guess I'll upgrade to winsows 11 but will try to keep a copy of 10 running on another partition.
Anyway I looked into it. But it says a person needs access to a Microsoft 365 or Azure account to access an ESU (Extended Security Update) program to keep on receiving updates for windows 10. And the to make it even more complicated, it can't be from a personal account.
Then it's possible to continue getting security updates for another 3 years.
In some other link, they said the price ranges from FREE to $30/year or $61/per year.
I was really confused by the wording in that article.
For some reason, I was lucky enough to acquire a 365 account in the past so I can do it.
But I'm not sure how anyone else can get access to it as Microsoft seems to discourage existing users from staying with 10.

Like yourself, I have to find ways to keep my existing computer up and running to without buying a new system.
I gotta Mac, but Apple will also discontinue support for many of their older models.
So maybe after that I'll just switch to Linux & Windows when the Apple OS partition becomes becomes obsolete.
Ultimately, Linux is the best end game option for older End of Life PC's.
One silver lining is that more mainstream software apps are starting to appear for Linux.
And of course there are many more FREE apps.
Many games & apps are now made for Mac OS X, Windows AND Linux.
Try STEAM. I think they offer multi platform.for Games and other apps.
For Wintel PCs many try to get a dual boot with Windows and Linux on it.

Steam also offers the Proton translation layer, which can enable Windows-native games on Linux. The sticking point is online multiplayer titles, for which the devs refuse to support Linux due to their anti-cheat schema not functioning on it.
For Windows apps, there's a package called Bottles, which does much the same thing.

But thanks for the information.
I just wanna find a way to keep using the old computer & the old software on it too without having to buy more stuff or upgrade. If I can keep using the current system for at least another 5 years? Maybe even 10? That'd be a good way to stretch the dollar.
