It's because the elites who run the US system don't want to share power with the masses & give them a true say in running the system.
That's why most US states don't split the electoral college because it would give rise to 3rd parties & split the hegemony of the 2 Democrats and Republicans. It would threaten the power of the Superstate & weaken the power of the elites.
1 alternative might be a multiparty system like France where multiple parties run in an election & then theres a runoff a week later between the 2 top parties to decide the winner. Meanwhile the winning party signs a contract with its coalition partners to map out an agenda. But theyd have to abide by the contact for 4 years until the next election cycle.
Of course this would threaten the power of the superstate in the US & that's why it's never implemented. Just a vision for 'a perfect world'.

A lot has changed since 2019.
Regardless of which party is in power, the hegemony of the US continues to weaken. Other rivals are coming up on its flank such as China. The US Petro dollar is no more & US military power is beginning to wane.
Try as he might I'm not sure if Trump can restore a nations economy which is 35 trillion in debt.

Trump is no different. Remember the wall Mexico was going to pay for? Or Obama's top priority when reaching office being codifying Roe vs Wade until it wasn't?
You are acting like 2025 and beyond will be the first time a politician is met with their inability to effect serious and therefore hamstrung from the word go. If you are open and honest with yourself first, the greater community at large 2d you will see that Trump was the lesser of two evils and had a track record of more favorable financial outcomes for average Americans than that of Harris.

It seems that countries with multiple parties, at the end of the day, they fall into right or left.
Now, you can argue that we don't have a true "left" in this country, but that's a related, but different topic.
