The East Coast is 3 days drive or 6 hours flight. I have never strayed from my roots.

And the US sees more influence from Mexico and other Latin countries every single day.

From my experience, the "pretend" Mexican is the white person who knows "MI Vida Loca" word for word and ends every sentence with the word "whey" while speaking in a generic, un authentic Mexican accent. Yes, they exist.

My kids are half Mexican, are fluent in both Mexican and English, and can go full Speedy Gonzalez if need be to keep up in conversations. Not once have they ever acted full Barrio to impress anybody.

Does it make them Pretend Mexican? I don't think so.
