Actually, now that we're on the subject, I might do it in the spring. A round trip is actually doable in a day of driving.
Done this trip plenty of times! It'll take you about 10 hours to hit the California border if you travel the I5, which is the quickest way. Los Angeles would then be another 11 or so from there.

Though if I was in a car I'd certainly travel the coast highway instead, which would take you quite a bit longer, but well worth it for the scenery.

Yeah it was about 10 hours & suddenly the landscape completely changed. It was dry, cool and all these Redwood trees suddenly appeared. Like something out of a dream. They musta been prehistoric trees when the wooly mammoths & the camels roamed North America.

Did you make it to any of the national parks? They're stunning.

Yeah I think the I5 goes thru Redwood ntl forest?

It does not. I5 goes through central California from the noth and switches to coastal in the south around L.A.. redwoods National Park is on coastal northern California. You will need to take 101 or 1 to get there.

Well anyway I was there too.

So at one point I took those hwy s.

Mostly 5 tho because it was the fastest route.

The 5 and the 99 make me want to scream they're so boring. The 101 is much better scenically in California and is the way to go if you're on vacation, imo.

But 5 is still interesting around northern Cal.

It was nice to come in there one time cuz it was raining all the way from Vancouver down to the orEgan border. Suddenly when in crossed into CA it was sunny and dry.

I don't know why I was there. I guess I just wanted something to do. So I drove down from portland to the California Border. There were all these beautiful forests and some small towns and hard to believe- hardly any people around.

It was like some dream of an enchanted forest in a fairy tale.

101 is boring most of the way, I say that as someone who lived in Santa Barbara and drove the 101 multiple times up to San Francisco. The 1 is way, way, way better in terms of scenery and just driving pleasure. It is a much longer drive hugging the coast and you do not want to drive it in the winter due to coastal fog and twisty roads but if it is summer, you have lots spare time, and you have a convertible sports car with a desire for entertaining and enjoyable driving... Then it is a world class road to take. Ocean on one side, mountains on the other, and some wonderfully twisty roads. Perfect in a Mazda Miata.

Especially with the top down.

I don't disagree, but I've gotten carsick from the twisty roads a time or two. If your vacation has a coastal CA focus, then it's fine.

I think they've made so many car ads and television ads on that Highway. For some reason the scenery if them is etched into my memory

Wasn't that movie the Graduate filmed on stretches of that hwy?

That hwy sold a Lotta cars.

One of my favorite views in CA along the coast - Bixby Bridge near Carmel, CA

In The Graduate he is supposedly driving an Alpha Romeo Spyder roadster from L.A. to Santa Barbara. Only it shows him driving through the Gaviota tunnel which is north of Santa Barbara and in the movie he is driving south bound on Highway 101 through the tunnel. It relays upon viewers not knowing or understanding the geography. It made good film but for anyone who knew the area you kept laughing about the nonsensical geographic locations.

Yeah, see, Overdone, the movie isn't about geography though is it?!

Actually, I'd like to go back to California one day Prowler.

But probably not San Francisco as it looks over developed and overpopulated now.

Last time I was there Northern California was beautiful, eh?

It is still beautiful.

Northern California isn't quite the Pacific Northwest but it's not SF or LA either. So it's a nice hybrid blend. That's what I like about it.

Plus it's really close & accessible to Vancouver. Same distance as a drive to Calgary. Nicer too.

Given the choice between the 2 I 'd rather drive to N Cal.

I like NorCal for very different reasons than I like SoCal.

The beach is what will always keep me here. But I also love where the redwoods collide with the ocean. NorCal led me to the PNW.

I have to be near an ocean.

I can get to Pigeon Forge or Nashville in about the same time. And stop at a lot of way cooler places along the way. Life in B.C. must suck.

Where do you live Prowler?

Southern Ontario?

Trouble with that part of the country is you need to go to Florida to get some warmth and sunshine during the winter.

We can just drive down and in less than a day we're in the beaches in California by suppertime. Not too interested in living in the snow again. Northern Alberta was really cold, eh.

Google Maps says I can get to Tampa in 20 hours, which means about 15 hours if I take the Camaro.

Way faster than you can get to Southern California in a stolen limo.

That's a long way to Florida for ya Prowler!

So maybe yer in New Brunswick/Maritimes ?

In about 1/2 that time we're in California.

Seattle is about 175 miles south of Vancouver. Portland another 150. California Border another 300? So the California coastline is doable in a half a day. It's like going from BC to Alberta only a lot more interesting. Worth the drive.

Actually, now that we're on the subject, I might do it in the spring. A round trip is actually doable in a day of driving.

Kinda strenuous tho. Best to take yer time enjoy the scenery eh.

All the good stuff in California is south of Los Angeles, which is an open sewer.

San Diego would have merged with LA long ago if it wasn’t for Camp Pendleton.

Orange County is a lot like SD, spoiled ass entitled racists lol

He has covered multiple zip codes within a 16 mile radius and 6 million people are living in this area. Compared to the 40,000 homeless, which are few and far between. I seriously haven’t seen anything like what these videos depict ever…. But the locals don’t want transplants… so there is that.

He’s mad because San Diego is like Tijuana in most areas and it’s where the highest concentration of illegals live.

I serially doubt he can afford to live in the area of La Jolla he claims to reside in…

But how will we ever know?

Is East Palo Alto still bad?

I thought/heard they were gentrifying it.

I remember I nearly got attacked right outside of E Palo Alto

I met a cop who worked there who was on disability for life because he got beat up.

I knew of someone who got shot and is today paralyzed from the waist down.

But how will we ever know?

1) San Diego is beautiful compared to the shot hole that is L.A.. 90% of which will only be improved if it gets razed to the ground and we start over.

2) The illegals head north because there are more jobs north.

3) You can't lie to me, I have spent years going to L.A. where there are homeless encampments u der every freeway bridge and all over the fucking place.

4) L.A.'s homeless position was 83,000 in 2020, there was no homeless census taken in 2021 due to covid, but the estimate is it went up 15%-20%. That means it is damn close to 100,000.
