Yet employers today are still reluctant to pay more than the absolute minimum, and then wonder why Shaniqua with the 75 IQ isn't so fast at the assembly line. Pay peanuts, get monkeys.

Can't tell ya how many bad drivers of heavy vehicles I've encountered on the roads. I was in a lineup on the 17 in Surrey once and this rig just about rolled back into my car because he forgot to apply the brake. To operate a Class 1 truck properly and safely does require a certain amount of skill and intelligence, but nowhere near what would be expected of a pilot. The stakes are much higher when you have a problem in the air, as opposed to a problem rolling on the ground...

I've actually worked with a pilot, who changed careers into my field because he found it boring as hell... Auto pilot flies the plane. Which can land it also. It's boring. He called it HAL.

BUT! If shit hits the fucking fan, they have to be capable of handling multiple tasks quickly or they die. And their passengers die. They have to know things that most people don't even have the faintest clue about to keep something that gravity wants on the ground, in the air until they can safely land... They have to be able to calculate a lot of shit, quickly at times. And remain absolutely calm and collected under pressure.

Therefor, the bar is set high for them.

Just observing that drivers who don't understand basic safety procedures must be pretty dumb. Or even just parking the wheels of a big wide truck with its wheels to the curb instead of 2' away so people can get thru the street. I've seen White drivers do that and they seem pretty dumb too.

It seems pretty basic to understand those courtesies, but it's also related a bit to education. Because when people are ignorant they don't seem to have an awareness of the outside world and the consequences their actions however small, can impact it. That's probably in part why you see far fewer accidents with pilots who have a 4 year degree than a class 1 truck driver who dropped out in grade 6 or 10.
