Stock Market Crashing!!!!

And of course some companies esp the underperformING ones will disappear cuz it'll be that much harder for them to raise the capital needed from shareholders/investors to expand or stay in business eh.

It might affect IPOs in a way that the price of shares will align more realistically with the true value of the company.

That is not a bad thing.

Under-performing companies should have a hard time staying in business. That is not a bad thing.

Healthy companies, by and large, will not be affected. Their stock value will not affect their operations.

If this happens a Lotta companies will either go bankrupt or be bought out. Not great for the consumer tho cuz it may result in less choice & higher prices cuz there's less competition.

Companies that should go bankrupt going bankrupt is not a bad thing.

New companies will startup that can operate profitably.

The PE ratio of the US markets have indicated for a while that stock prices are out-of-line down there. We talked about this in the past, @Joe. The TSX PE ratio is under 20. It is way closer to where it should be.

It is too bad that some people are going to see their portfolios suffer. It is mostly going to hurt the newer investors as they have not seen the large, long term growth that long term investors have.

One thing that might be interesting to see is if some US investors bail on their 40 PE ratio US stock and buy some 15 PE ratio Canadian stock. This could possibly pump up the Canadian market and cause some volatility up here. Volatility is good for people who know how to time the ups and downs.

It was all bought on speculation & unsustainable massive levels of debt. So once a domino effect is set in motion it will likely lead to a massive real estate crash around the world. The same interests buying up & highly leveraged real estate in China are the ones snapping up properties in the US too.

@Joe a massive real estate crash would be good, right?

If you were very liquid and in a position to grab foreclosures and be able to rehab where needed and possibly hold on to them for some time before the market "recovers"

Hahahaha!!!

You greedy capitalist!!!

I was really addressing @Joe's constant whining and moaning about the high cost of housing. Especially in Chinky-owned Vancouver.

But, yeah, some people could take advantage of the situation that way and make profit. And others would get burned. The best thing really would be for a more gradual correction in the places where it is needed if avoiding hurting some people is a priority.

But one thing as always in these crises, the wealth gets spiked upstairs. And the poors get poorer.

I disagree.

Sure, more wealth can give you greater flexibility and more options.

But moderately well-off people can do quite well for themselves, too.

I think the real differentiator is not the wealth of the person, but the intelligence. The correlation between the wealthy and their better-than-average performance is mostly due to the fact that wealthy people are generally more intelligent.

I am an example of a person who did not come from a wealthy family, who worked a "regular job" for less than a decade, and yet have been able to position myself to be financially secure and, by all generally accepted methods of predicting future needs, not requiring any labour-based income until at least the age of 100 years old. If I find myself strapped for cash at 100, I guess I will be a limo driver or something.

It is the old "correlation does not imply causation" problem.

If they do not even consider intelligence as a factor, then it will not appear in their conclusions.

So, full disclosure: Does the "easily accessible data" include some measurement of level of intelligence?

Just check the "easily accessible data" and let me know if it includes date regarding level of intelligence.

If not, then they clearly did not even consider that intelligence may be the driving factor. (And that would, sadly, be a pretty good indication of the level of intelligence of the researchers...)

Correlation does not imply causation is definately not a platitude, Admin.

The whole rich getting richer and the poor getting poorer is kinda platitudey though.

Care to share the data you are referring to?

Not one mention of the level of intelligence.

They did not even consider that as a factor.

This is the same old story. People are always afraid to examine the effects of intelligence.

Another example:

A disproportionately high number of low IQ people become criminals and go to prison.

But we ignore that, and just say "A disproportionately high number of low income people become criminals and go to prison."

But what is the most significant root cause?

Low IQ results in bad decisions and bad jobs->low income
Low IQ results in bad decisions and breaking the law-> jail time
Low IQ results in bad decisions and missed investment opportunities->the rich high IQ get richer

Unfortunately, Admin, you have demonstrated that you may not be able to grasp this pretty simple concept.

And you love to bash the poor because it inflates your fragile ego @The Prowler. It makes you feel good to indulge in schadenfreude.

Truly successful men don't measure their success against the most socially disadvantaged members of our society. In fact they'really more likely to donate their money & time to charitable causes.

Anyways why don't you quit poor bashing & grow the fuck up? You write like an immature overgrown teenager @The Prowler.

The fact that you buy Pig Pharma stocks that you dont believe in but profit from while others are putting their lives on the line for you says a lot for itself.

You have no principles or values ya Fuckin hypocrite.

Yeah, today was a pretty good day for the TSX.

The USA markets are pretty inflated, but the TSX looks pretty good. I have a bunch of blue chips paying dividends of between 4% and 6% and seeing steady growth.

You listed Manulife...you do not want to know how much Manulife stock my wife and I have between ourselves...PE ratio of 7.32, dividend of 5.19%, a large insurance and finance company in markets all over the world...I always say that if a company like that gets into trouble, we are all fucked anyways because shit has hit the fan.

Royal Bank is a good one too...12.49 PE, 3.49%...solid growth....a pretty safe bet.

Ya, I used to be a more riskier investor, but after some trial and error (and some losses also), I keep my portfolio simple now with reliable, dividend paying holdings. The onset of COVID did bash share value of Manulife, but I still get reliable dividends regardless... All share dividends are directed to DRIP.

I now just buy a lottery ticket if I want to gamble!

Only a Judas like you would buy stocks from a company which manufactures vaccines that you've labled as depopulation devices. Youve described their intent as evil and yet choose to profit from them.

You're just a Neoconservative hypocrite @The Prowler.

Honestly I don't know how you live with yourself.

Pfizer does a lot of good, @Joe.

Their little blue pill gives you a fighting chance for a decent boner every time you save up enough for a BJ from a crack whore.

I'm interested in seeing what Putins unhinged threats will do this week. Again, the markets recovered last week because the sanctions were a joke.
