She is conservative politically. Always was, but we bonded over other things that we did have in common. I listened to her tell the story while laughing and asking me "Isn't that great?" Now, for her, personally I can see that it was great. It gave her a leg up. I realized she was so unaware of what she was telling me, somehow, I was in on it, see? I should think it's great too. I simply said, "You think so, hmm?" She answered "yes". I let it go. How was I going to convince someone so out of touch. I wasn't. I did ask her if everyone she'd met or seen walking into the company's floor was Caucasian (HR, panelists). She said, I think so...but I didn't meet everyone.

What he said to her was, in my opinion, we don't hire non-Whites. Could I prove that? No. But there is no reason that should come up in an interview. This happened in the early 2000s.

No, it's not the same as being a ginger, who despite the discrimination they seem to face from other white people, can be quite attractive, imo. I don't see being a ginger in the same universe as being black or brown surrounded by an often hostile culture.

The company I work for no longer does face to face interviews. You get on a website, fill out some stuff and then come to orientation. No physical test. There is a background check. Unless you have an accident that costs more than several hundred dollars in damage, you will never even have a drug test.

The result is the company can be considered non-bias because they hire people blindly. Also they pay less money for new hires because no drug test. Companies are like people because they are run by people. They will overcome and adapt to surroundings. You want a Diversity, Equity, Inlusion score, they will give you that, in spades.

Safety is down because blindly hiring people and keeping them around based upon their diversity > safety of everyone else in their path.
