I have a cousin that took care of our grandmother almost full time. She didn't want to leave her home and didn't have to because of my cousin.
In some ways, I see being with people during their last days on Earth as a kind of privilege, even though it is super painful. As hard as it was at times I’m glad I could be there for her. She had always had my back.
Once we got her mood and anxiety managed, there were interesting moments, one example. She would do what they call sundowning she would get up in the middle of the night on a mission, this one evening she had set up the card tables from her bridge playing days, with the chairs and cards arranged around the table…about three in the morning A heavy hand pounds on my br door and Officer Smith asked me to step out to speak with him. I’m “wtf?” Mom was worried about her Bridge players and called the police. In some ways, I see being with people during their last days on Earth as a kind of privilege, even though it is super painful.
