We have similar stuff here. That's why we wear thongs (aka flip flops) throughout the warmer months, to see what causes pain or kills us. Summers are merry moribund here.

My current city workplace had a meeting about snake season and new cases of venomous snakes found at other locations.

Last job had me stepping over them every 20-200 feet, or just stopping randomly because my spidey senses said just stop for no reason, then I saw a reason 2 feet away and they were trying to put 5 feet between us.

We're tall, heavy, noisy, and can't be swallowed whole. Smaller critters don't want a bar of us. Unless we stomp on them, brush on them, or have negativity or fear in our hearts.
