I knew a Chilean woman whose sisters were all named Maria like her.

Maria Jose
Maria Luisa
Maria Carmen
Maria, etc...

Of course they all went by their middle name. I always found that odd. Why not name them differently and Maria could have been their middle name?

Somewhere around 80% of Portuguese women are named Maria. They almost all go by their second or third name. A guy came to my door one day, looking for Maria. I had to laugh. I said "Qual Maria?" and he said something like, "A tia do Antonio." I was like, "Ah, sim. Qual Antonio?" There are maybe 10 Antonios on my street. True story. He gave up and went searching on his own.
