A few years ago I was waiting in line and the woman behind me was with her son, he was about 9 or so, he was begging his mom to get the Happy Meal, but she could afford only the cheeseburger and soda

Not uncommon to see kids eating while their parents just watch

I asked if I could help and buy him the meal, she smiled and thanked and bought something for herself too

It's a very complicated country, a lot of bad human factors going on here, a bit like a perfect storm for a dystopian society that swears it's heaven on earth

Prison terms for murders are ridiculous, many don't even spend a week in jail for killing someone, so that deterrent no long exists here

We don't have as many mass shootings here as you guys, but on the other hand, the chances of being killed by some crackhead during a robbery are huge

People getting killed by a noisy neighbor that didn't like your complaint about loud music, because of a fender bender, the other day some guy got killed when he complained about someone cutting a line

Not really, we have 210 million people in a country that's larger that the continental US

Of course, too many people in places like Rio and São Paulo, but there's a lot of places to live

1/4 of the population lives on welfare and developed places usually pay more

But when you factor in the cost of life, those people would be living better in smaller cities

So there's no reason for them to pile themselves in slums located in 45 degree hills, but they do it anyway
