For a brief time, I had a VW Thing, the commercial civilian version of the Kubelwagen.

I pretty much had to teach myself, at least on an automatic transmission. A friend of mine taught me how to drive stick. Wasn't too tough.

LOL, I had already been taught to change the oil in a car and had helped change an alternator, due a minor tune up, and also a starter.

I learned manual first. Actually, I rode an automatic only a couple times before going to the US

@Reggie_Essent here in Brazoo, a lot of people said they could fix 90% of the problems on a VW beetle with a pair of pliers and some strong wire
