It teaches them to recite by rote without ever analyzing, while media for the last 50+ years has drummed into their heads the idea that emotionalism is healthy when, in fact, it's a leash around their necks by which they're dragged in whichever direction the powers that be want them to go.

But a total incapacity for emotional regulation isn't, particularly when it's so hyperemphasized that it becomes individuals' primary, even exclusive, lens into and schema for dealing with everything in their lives. Then it's intellectually crippling, as we're witnessing now.
