The more primitive cultures are half in the modern world and half in the old. With regard to birth control they are still operating in the world where there was very high mortality rates which are less prevalent today. I have read some horrifying interviews on the subject with women who have stated that no one ever told them that they could prevent pregnancy and that having 10 kids was no longer desirable. It's likely also that in male dominated societies where the women are regarded as little more than incubators to personal armies and fiefdoms. Sad state of things but a large portion of the world is still in a shocking state of non-advancement socially/culturally etc.
