I'd like to support the farmers here too, Jack... but they treat their roadside stands like a garage sale with Ebay level bidding prices WHILE most of their product gets sold to the major supermarket chains for a fraction of the cost. And most of the fruit and veggies wouldn't pass a grading regime... so the fsrmers getting fucked by the supermarket monopoly are selling their shittiest stuff at jacked up prices.

Its a little different here Frood. Texas fucked the vemont dairy industry a few years back, so all the milk produced is mostly local or raw and they side deal to all the local supermarkets who happily buy them out.

@jack If I walk into a supermarket and see 1 dollar asparagus bunches, I check the stems to see if it's started seeding, and the length of the stalk because paying for the root is disingenuous. If ok, I'll buy it. When I try to buy the same bunch at a farmer's stand, they want three times the amount and it's the dregs.... but they market it as fresh to table even though the cut off is days dried out, full of white root, and seedy as all fuck.

The farmes here do everybody honest Frood, we support them, and they support us. It's much less mercenary. Of course, we have less than 600k in the state total so it's a much smaller environment.
